The Korea Times Reprints Story from The Onion… Again

Yep, the intrepid guys and gals at the Korea Times recently yet again quoted a story from The Onion, a well known (well, perhaps not that well known) American satirical comedy website. The headline read:

Kim Jong-un named Sexiest Man Alive for 2012.

The Korea Times, quoting The Onion, stated, “With his devastatingly handsome, round face, his boyish charm, and his strong, sturdy frame, this Pyongyang-bred heartthrob is every woman’s dream come true.”

And…

“He has that rare ability to somehow be completely adorable and completely macho at the same time,” Onion Style and Entertainment editor Marissa Blake-Zweibel said.“And that’s the quality that makes him the sort of man women want, and men want to be. He’s a real hunk with real intensity who also knows how to cut loose and let his hair down.”Added Blake-Zweibel, “Ri Sol-ju is one lucky lady, that’s for sure!”

As an aspiring satirist it is somewhat disheartening to know there is simply no way to compete with the comedic geniuses over there at the Korea Times. It seems the story has finally been taken down, but the comments are still here. For something even more brilliant, check out what this same team of crack (crackhead?) reporters ran earlier last year about the aliens from Planet Gootan, (lifted from the Weekly World News) who for some inexplicable reason failed to attack Earth last November (perhaps the best part is the fact that almost three years after publishing this wonderful piece, the KT article is still online).

  1. perhaps you guys should study some korean. . . the original article, in korean, opens with the headline “美 풍자매체…” which means “american parody media…”

  2. Thanks for letting me know Sid. My Korean comprehension skills are far from flawless. It does beg the question though, why wouldn’t they allude to this awareness in the English version?
